Universal Network-Level Call Blocking

Summary

In December of 2018, the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) mandated all Canadian telecommunications service providers (TSPs) to implement Universal Network-Level Call Blocking of blatantly illegitimate calls on their networks by December 19, 2019.

Timeline

Fibernetics has implemented Universal Network-Level Call Blocking for all voice calls. These changes came into effect in December of 2019.

Service Changes

Fibernetics blocks all inbound and outbound voice calls that have a Calling Line Identifier (CLID) that does not conform to the North American Numbering Plan.

A call will be blocked if the CLID is:

  • More or less than 10 digits (Long distance and country codes are not included in the count e.g. 1 800 111-1111 is considered a 10 digit number)
  • Invalid (e.g. all 0’s or area codes that do not exist or are unassigned)

Universal Network-Level Call Blocking benefits Canadians by helping to reduce the number of unsolicited calls they receive.
